Welcome to Shafer MN's Website!
History of Shafer
Shafer was founded in the 1850’s and named after an early settler, Jacob Shafer. Hay, ginseng, and potatoes were some of the early crops produced. The railroad running from Taylor’s Falls to the Twin Cities made Shafer a thriving town during the turn of the century. Car dealerships, a creamery, a feed mill, a general store, taverns and cafe’s made up early Shafer.
Population
Shafer’s population has tripled in the last 10 years to 1045. Chisago County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Minnesota!
